HAMMER Competition Series 2026 – Train like a competitive athlete

Fitness races are the fastest-growing competition format in endurance and functional fitness worldwide. Thousands of athletes compete in organised fitness competitions every year – a combination of running and functional workout stations that challenge the whole body. If you want to succeed in these competitions, you need to train with the right equipment – in a way that’s true to competition conditions, precise and consistent. The HAMMER Competition Series has been developed precisely for this purpose. HAMMER, the European market leader in fitness equipment, brings together in the Competition Series all the equipment needed for professional competition preparation – in a quality that meets competition standards.

What is the HAMMER Competition Series?

The HAMMER Competition Series is a specialised range of equipment for athletes who train specifically for fitness races and functional endurance competitions. The series comprises all competition-relevant training equipment – from weight sledges, SkiErgs and RowErgs to sandbags, wall balls and plyo boxes – and is designed to replicate competition conditions as closely as possible. Every piece of equipment in the Competition Series has been developed so that the training load and quality of movement correspond to what athletes actually encounter in competition. No guesswork, no estimates – just precise, reproducible training conditions for maximum transfer to competition.

Who is the HAMMER Competition Series for?

The HAMMER Competition Series is aimed at athletes who actively take part in fitness races and functional endurance competitions and want to train in conditions that closely resemble competition, ambitious recreational athletes seeking the challenge of structured competition training, CrossFit athletes and functional fitness enthusiasts who wish to expand their training to include competition-specific stations; personal trainers and coaches who want to prepare their clients specifically for fitness races; and gyms that wish to offer a complete competition preparation programme for their members. HAMMER has developed the Competition Series with a clear objective: maximum transfer to competition through maximum training realism.

The HAMMER Competition Series at a glance

Weight Sleds – Sled Push & Pull
The weight sled is the most intense station in the fitness race format. The Sled Push requires explosive leg power, hip extension and core stability – whilst the Sled Pull additionally demands grip strength and back muscles. The HAMMER Competition Sleds are made from high-quality steel, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and accommodate standard weight plates with a 50 mm bore.
Competition reference: In a Fitness Race competition, the sled is typically pushed for 50 metres and pulled for 50 metres. The total weight in the Open category is approx. 102 kg for men and approx. 72 kg for women. HAMMER recommends starting training at 50–60% of the competition weight and gradually increasing the load over 8–12 weeks.
What makes the HAMMER Competition Sled special? Reinforced steel construction for intensive use · Compatible with 50 mm Olympic discs · Height-adjustable support tubes for an optimal pushing position · Integrated pull rope system for pull variations · Indoor runners with rubber coating for gym floors · Outdoor runners for tarmac and grass

SkiErg – Endurance & Upper-Body Strength
The SkiErg simulates the motion of cross-country skiing on a stationary machine and is one of the most technically demanding stations in the Fitness Race format. The bilateral pulling motion engages the latissimus dorsi, triceps, core and – with correct technique – the leg extensors too. In competition, athletes typically complete 1,000 metres on the SkiErg. HAMMER stocks top-of-the-range models in its Competition range, which are equally suitable for intensive competition training and general endurance training. Competition reference: 1,000 metres on the SkiErg is one of the most technically demanding stations in the Fitness Race format. Well-trained athletes can cover the distance in under 4 minutes – beginners should allow 5–7 minutes. Efficient technique (using your hips and body weight) saves significantly more time than arm strength alone.
What makes the HAMMER Competition SkiErg special? Precise power measurement for reproducible training data · Wall-mounted or freestanding installation possible · Smooth rope return for fluid movement · Ergonomic handles for training that is gentle on the shoulder joints · Compatible with popular fitness apps for digital tracking

RowErg – Full-body endurance
The RowErg is one of the most effective full-body endurance machines available – and a key station in the Fitness Race competition. The rowing motion engages 86 per cent of the body’s total musculature and combines strength and endurance training in a single, technically precise movement. In competition, a distance of 1,000 metres is rowed. HAMMER’s Competition Series offers high-performance rowing machines for competition-style training and general fitness training.
Competition reference: Rowing 1,000 metres is one of the most gruelling stages in the Fitness Race format – especially when undertaken after several kilometres of running. Target pace for ambitious Open athletes: under 2:00 min/500m. Basic technique rule: 60% legs, 30% back, 10% arms – not the other way round.
What makes the HAMMER Competition RowErg special? Precise wattage and pace measurement for competition-style interval training · Foldable for space-saving storage at home · Ergonomic seat and adjustable footrest · Compatible with fitness tracking apps · Available with air resistance (progressive) and magnetic resistance (quiet)

Sandbags – Lunges & Carries
Sandbags are an indispensable part of Fitness Race training. In the sandbag lunge, the sandbag is carried on the shoulder whilst performing lunges over a set distance – one of the most physically and mentally demanding events in the competition. The uneven weight of the sandbag also engages stabiliser muscles and the core. HAMMER Competition sandbags are made from tear-resistant material, fitted with carrying handles and available in competition-relevant weight categories.
Competition reference: In a Fitness Race competition, the sandbag is typically carried whilst performing lunges over a distance of 100 metres. The competition weight is approx. 20 kg for men (Open) and approx. 10 kg for women (Open). HAMMER recommends training with the competition weight from 4 weeks before the event.
What makes HAMMER Competition Sandbags special? Tear-resistant outer material for intensive use · Ergonomic carrying handles for a secure shoulder position · Can be filled with sand or rubber granules · Available in all competition-relevant weight classes · Seams and fastenings designed for continuous use

Wall balls – Wall ball shots
Wall ball shots are an explosive combination exercise involving a deep squat followed by a medicine ball throw against the wall – one of the most physically demanding stations in the fitness race format. HAMMER Competition Wallballs are made from durable material, have a defined outer diameter for consistent throwing technique and are available in all competition-relevant weights.
Competition reference: In a Fitness Race competition, 100 Wall Ball Shots are typically completed – the target mark on the wall is at a height of 3 metres. Weight for men (Open): 9 kg; for women (Open): 6 kg. Technique tip: The squat is the driving force – the throw comes from the extension movement, not from the arms.
What makes HAMMER Competition Wallballs special? Defined outer diameter for consistent throwing technique · Durable outer material for intensive use · Minimal bounce for controlled exercise execution · Available in all competition weights · Colour-coded by weight

Burpee Broad Jumps & Box Jumps
Competition Reference: In the Fitness Race format, plyo boxes are used for explosive jumping movements. Standard competition height: 60 cm for men, 50 cm for women. HAMMER recommends building up jump height and explosive power through a structured 8-week plan.

Farmers’ Carry Equipment
Farmers’ carries – carrying heavy weights with both hands over a defined distance – train grip strength, trapezius muscles, core stability and mental strength in equal measure. In its Competition Series, HAMMER offers specialised farmers’ carry handles that can be fitted with standard weight plates – for load training that closely mimics competition conditions.
Competition reference: In Fitness Race competitions, farmers’ carries are typically performed over 200 metres. Weight per hand: approx. 24 kg for men (Open), approx. 16 kg for women (Open). Technique tip: keep your posture upright, shoulders back, and look straight ahead – do not look down.

The complete competition setup from HAMMER

A complete Fitness Race training setup featuring the HAMMER Competition Series covers all competition-relevant stations and enables structured, progressive competition preparation training – at home, in the gym or during club training sessions. HAMMER recommends the following prioritisation for setting up a complete competition setup:
Phase 1 – Basics: RowErg + SkiErg + sandbags → endurance and strength endurance as a foundation
Phase 2 – Expansion: Weight sled + wall balls + plyo box → explosive power and competition-specific exercises
Phase 3 – Complete: Farmers’ carry equipment + full range of weights → comprehensive competition-replica training

FAQ

  • What is the HAMMER Competition Series?

The HAMMER Competition Series is a specialised range of equipment from HAMMER for athletes who train specifically for fitness races and functional endurance competitions. It comprises all competition-relevant equipment – weight sledges, SkiErg, RowErg, sandbags, wall balls, plyo boxes and farmer’s carry equipment – in a quality that matches that used in actual competitions.

  • What equipment do I need for a complete competition training programme?

A complete fitness race training setup includes: RowErg (1,000m rowing), SkiErg (1,000m skiing), weight sleds (sled push & pull), sandbags (lunges), wall balls (wall ball shots), plyo boxes (jumps) and farmer’s carry equipment. HAMMER offers all these pieces of equipment in the Competition Series – individually or as a complete set-up.

  • How do I train in a competition-like manner with the HAMMER Competition Series?

Competition-style training means practising exercises at competition weight, over competition distances and in the order they appear in the competition – combined with running sessions between stations. HAMMER recommends structured training plans that progressively build up all competition stations and work specifically towards the competition date. To get started: train each station individually, then build up station combinations, and finally carry out full competition simulations.

  • Can I use the Competition Series even without a specific competition goal?

Yes – the equipment in the HAMMER Competition Series is an excellent training tool for general functional fitness training, CrossFit, strength-endurance training and weight loss – even without a specific competition goal. The RowErg, SkiErg and weight sleds are standalone training machines with a wide range of applications extending far beyond the competitive context.

  • For which performance levels is the Competition Series suitable?

The HAMMER Competition Series is designed for all performance levels – from beginners looking to complete their first fitness race to elite athletes aiming for personal bests. The machines are scalable in terms of weight and intensity – every athlete trains at their current level and progresses gradually towards competition standard.
